GULF1, GPSC and the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand have signed a shareholders’ agreement to develop a 17.5 MWp solar project on a 92-rai silt pond at Map Ta Phut Industrial Port.

The partners will undertake the project through RenerGIE, a joint venture owned 37.5% each by GULF1 and GPSC and 25% by IEAT. GPSC announced the agreement on 17 September.

The site lies within the port’s third-phase development. IEAT approved GULF1 and GPSC’s use of the area and subsequently authorised its own investment in the joint venture.

The planned installation will supply clean electricity to industrial users at Map Ta Phut. GULF1 said it would contribute to design, development, construction and long-term operation, while GPSC would bring generation and electricity-network expertise.

For IEAT, the project creates several sources of revenue from the site: dividends from its shareholding, payments for water-surface use rights and utility service fees.

The development combines an existing industrial site, nearby electricity users and a public-private ownership structure to bring an underused area into energy production.
