Russia’s ambassador has pitched small modular nuclear reactors as a potential power source for Thailand’s large data centers, saying Moscow has proposed bilateral cooperation on the technology.

Speaking at a Bangkok media briefing on Wednesday, Evgeny Tomikhin said the Thai and Russian energy ministries had shown interest in expanding cooperation beyond trade into technology. He argued that smaller reactors could serve large data centers and remote areas, with shorter construction times than conventional nuclear plants.

Tomikhin said any decision rested with the Thai government. He described Russia’s role as providing information and cooperation options as Thailand discusses nuclear energy with several potential partners.
